The electric roadsters still aren't ready at Tesla Motors [1], but their new CEO is.

Ze’ev Drori, former head of auto security systems company Clifford Electronics, reported to work today at Tesla.

Ze'ev is a successful high-tech entrepreneur and an experienced chief executive with the proven ability to create and manage companies with innovative products in both the high-tech and automotive sectors," said Elon Musk, chairman of Tesla.

"He has more than 30 years of continual success and has demonstrated the ability to lead a company from conception to profitability, a public offering and thousands of employees."

The company with the most anticipated electric vehicle in the world saw founder and former CEO Martin Eberhard shuffled over to a president of technology post in August.

But now Eberhard won't even be on the board of directors. He's been re-shuffled to the advisory board. According to Tesla, Eberhard "will continue to actively support the goals and efforts of the company."

In August, Eberhard said he initiated the CEO search "as Tesla Motors has grown in size and complexity beyond twice the size and at least five times the complexity of any organization I have run before."

Tesla, which has pushed back its production schedule a number of times, now hopes to roll out 50 cars in the first quarter of 2008, followed by an additional 600 cars for the remainder of the year.

If you could buy a 2008 model, which you can't because the waiting list is full up, you'd pay $98,000 for the speedy electric roadster.

Pricing for the 2009 model has yet to be announced.
