Paris-based EDF Energies Nouvelles [1] announced today that it signed an agreement to purchase 67.5 megawatts worth of photovoltaic modules from Photowatt International, headquartered in Bourgoin-Jallieu, France.
This is EDF Energies' third supply deal for photovoltaic modules.
Financial term of the contract, which has an option for another 37.5 MW, were not disclosed.
EDF Energies said that Photowatt, the solar products manufacturing business of ATS Automation Tooling Systems, would deliver the modules over three years.
The company plans to use the modules primarily for the construction of ground-based solar power plants.
Last month, EDF Energies signed a contract with Auburn Hills, Mich.-based United Solar Ovonic for modules to be used for building-integrated facilities on large roofs (see United Solar Ovonic, EDF in supply deal [2]).
United Solar is supplying 12 MW of thin-film photovoltaic laminates to EDF Energies under that deal.
In July, EDF Energies announced that it would purchase 230 MW from Phoenix, Ariz.'s First Solar (see First Solar and Trina Solar shine on new orders [3]). EDF Energies said it plans to use those modules for ground-based farms.
EDF Energies is a 50 percent owned subsidiary of the EDF group.
