Dallas, Texas-based Ameresco [1] today announced the purchase of solar integrator Southwest Photovoltaic Systems for an undisclosed sum.

Southwest PV, a Texas-based designer, integrator and distributor of photovoltaic, wind and other renewable energy solutions, focuses on specialty off-grid and small to mid-scale grid connected systems.

Ameresco is a large independent provider of energy solutions, and has implemented more than $3 billion in energy-related services including energy efficiency, infrastructure renewal, landfill gas, water conservation, and natural gas and electricity supply, the company said.

The addition of Southwest PV strengthens Ameresco's ability to deliver solar systems to current and new customers and expands the company's presence in the southern and western states.

“With this acquisition our range of renewable energy products and services now extends from large scale photovoltaic and wind development all the way to smaller specialty systems requiring experienced component selection and realistic solutions,” said George P. Sakellaris, Ameresco’s founder and CEO.

Established in 1986, Southwest PV operates branch offices in Nashville, Tennessee and Denver, Colorado.

Ameresco has over 50 offices throughout the United States and Canada.

The company says it focuses on helping government agencies, schools, hospitals, colleges and universities, utilities, public housing authorities, social housing and commercial and industrial customers reduce operating expenses, increase energy reliability, and enhance the environment.

California-based solar integrator PowerLight was bought by SunPower last year (see Inside Greentech's Solar biz optimistic about SunPower acquisition of PowerLight [2]), triggering a wave of industry speculation about more consolidation of solar integrators.
