The folks over at Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies have introduced a new toy for bigger boys... with decidedly bigger budgets.

H-cell

You can now pimp your R/C ride with a fuel cell power pack.

Horizon's H-cell is a kit is a “drop in” that turns 1/10th scale radio controlled model cars into long-lasting, hydrogen powered speed demons.

The H-cell can be fit into any car built with the popular TT-01 type chassis from Tamiya. It comes with a hydrogen fuel cell power unit and an adaptable, futuristic body shell.

The heart of the kit is an ultra-compact air-cooled, light emitting PEM fuel cell system and a fuel storage system that can safely carry up to 30 liters of solid state hydrogen, the company says.

With the H-cell, owners can transform their cars into futuristic looking, zero emission fuel cell power concept cars reaching speeds of 22 mph (35km/h), ultracapacitor-induced acceleration, and 4 times longer rides (60-70 minutes) than conventional rechargeable batteries.

Horizon is the outfit that brought you the $115 USD H-racer, the fuel cell toy car Time called one of the best inventions of 2006.

The company is positioning its new kit for "passionate hobbyists," an appropriate euphemism for the well-heeled (after the kit, the hell-wheeled), given its $1,500 USD price tag.

But boy, it's cool. Check out the video [1] on the company's web site.
