California's DeWind said today it received an order from the U.K.'s Seawind International for an additional five turbines for a project in Chile.
DeWind is a unit of Composite Technology.
The 20 megawatt project will now have a total of 10 D8 2 MW DeWind turbines. Seawind made its initial order in June (see DeWind receives order for D8 wind turbines).
"The extension of this project demonstrates the seriousness with which our client, a senior mining company, is viewing the part renewable sources can play in their energy supply and confirms Chile's status as an emerging market for windpower," said Seawind managing director Tim Adams.
The turbines are scheduled for delivery in mid-2008 with towers to be supplied by Seawind.
DeWind said it received an additional down payment of $4.7 million to secure the deliveries.
In its initial announcement, DeWind said Seawind would also be placing orders for spare parts inventory and for service and maintenance.
The turbines will be manufactured at the TECO-Westinghouse plant in Texas.
Seawind International provides project management, engineering, construction and operations services to the wind energy industry.
Composite Technology develops, manufactures and sells high performance electrical transmission and renewable energy generation products.
