Phoenix Solar to build two plants in Spain

August 2, 2007

Germany's Phoenix Solar said today it secured contracts worth $27.3 million to build two plants with a total of 4 megawatt peak power output in two locations in Spain.

The contracts cover the construction and turn-key completion of the photovoltaic plants.

With today's announcement, Phoenix said Spain has become the most important foreign market for the company.

Phoenix said it has already completed a megawatt plant under the contract which has been feeding into the public grid since the end of July.

Nemesis Desarrollo, the customer on that project headquartered in Pinoso, has placed orders for two more megawatts on the same site.

Along with the planning and construction of the plant, Phoenix said it will also take over the operation and maintenance of the project.

Phoenix said Nemesis Desarrollo owns the approximately 15-hectare site, as well as a number of other properties in the region, and plans to invest more funds in solar electricity plants.

The second contract is for the construction of another megawatt project for Madrid-based Sun Fund 5.

Phoenix plans to build the plant on a site of around 3 hectares in Toledo.

A 1.2 MW photovoltaic plant with a tracking system has already been built on the same site.

Phoenix will construct an extension to the plant on the site, using the assembly system for ground-mounted photovoltaic plants developed by Phoenix.

Phoenix is calling Spain Europe's second largest solar market, second to Germany.

With the company's 6.5 MW La Solana project, announced in March, and today's contracts, Phoenix said the Spanish market has developed into its most important foreign solar market in 2007.

Phoenix, what's in a name

Hey Phoenix Solar should be located in Phoenix AZ not Germany. So should Phoenix motorcars with the altairnano lithium battery EV SUT. It's a famous name I just wish all of them were from my Phoenix AZ so I could enjoy the results.
