Itron meter software in production at Florida Power & Light

February 5, 2007

Itron (Nasdaq: ITRI) announced today that Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has completed the integration of its IEE software platform to manage meter data collected at FPL.

IEE (Itron Enterprise Edition) solves meter data management inefficiencies and integration difficulties that arise for utilities operating and maintaining multiple meter data collection systems, the company said.

In addition to hand-held meter reading, FPL uses automatic metering reading (AMR) hardware from multiple vendors to collect metering data. IEE software tools are compatible with each vendor’s system, providing FPL with consistent processes and interfaces regardless of the meter data’s source or application.

FPL plans to expand the use of IEE for further evaluations of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployments for its residential customers. FPL will leverage functions provided in IEE to understand how the data collected over the networks can be used to provide improved customer service and create operational efficiencies as additional AMI endpoints are deployed.

“By deploying advanced metering, we are looking to use technology to improve service to our customers and identify opportunities to work more efficiently,” said Marlene Santos, vice president of customer service for FPL. “In this case, advanced metering and the proper application of the data are critical components to meet those objectives.”

Itron is a technology provider to the global energy and water industries. More than 3,000 utilities worldwide use Itron technology to optimize the delivery and use of energy and water.
