Recipe for adventure and profit:

1) Move to China

2) Start a solar company

3) IPO in U.S.

Headlining this week's dealflow in greentech is confirmation of yet another forthcoming Chinese solar company IPO. Any bets it won't be the last?

  • Chinese solar panel cell maker JA Solar has filed to sell 15 million American depositary shares priced between $12.50 to $14.50 each in an initial public offering. Each ADS is to represent three of the company's ordinary shares. JA Solar hopes to be listed on the Nasdaq Global Market under the symbol "JASO." Underwriters include CIBC World Markets, Piper Jaffray, RBC Capital Markets and Needham & Co. Late last year, two Chinese solar panel makers debuted on American markets within a week: Solarfun Power Holdings and Trina Solar.
  • North Carolina biofuel maker NewGen Technologies is receiving $70 million in secured debt financing from BioFuel Investments. Proceeds will be used to complete the purchase of Appalachian Oil Company (“APPCO”), pay off existing debt and other initiatives. The deal is to be for a 10-year term with an interest rate of 10%, interest-only for the first 2 years. In addition, BFI will receive a warrant to purchase 5,000,000 shares of NewGen's common stock at $2.00/share.
  • ICP Solar Technologies of Montreal said late yesterday it will buy San Diego-based solar power distributor Discover Power Inc. for an undisclosed price. ICP, which trades on the over-the-counter market, said Discover Power's California location is ideal because of the widespread solar power initiative being implemented by state governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • Biofuel developer Kreido Laboratories has completed a reverse merger and is now listed on the OTC market as KRBF, doing business as Kreido Biofuels. At the same time, Kreido completed a $25 million private placement. Kreido has developed a new type of biodiesel reactor that it says can produce tons of product daily from a variety of vegetable oils.
  • Boston-Power, a Westborough, Mass.-based developer of lithium-ion batteries, has raised $15.56 million in Series B funding according to a regulatory filing. Granite Global Ventures was joined by return backers Venrock Associates and Gabriel Venture Partners co-led the deal.
  • Vancouver-based Nevada Geothermal Power announced a private placement of approximately $2,502,500 CDN. An over-allotment option exercisable for up to 30 days after the close will to increase the size of the offering by up to 7,700,000 units, or an additional $5,005,000 CDN. Nevada Geothermal develops geothermal projects in Nevada and Oregon.
