Millennium Cell making fuel cell cartridges

January 17, 2007

Millennium Cell (NASDAQ: MCEL) has established manufacturing capability for Hydrogen on Demand® fuel cartridges.

It's a step which the company says will broaden its business model to include commercial sales of standard products. With this development, the company also has the capability to fulfill orders from licensees who package components into customized fuel cartridge designs.

The company collaborated with Dow Chemical and a welding partner to develop manufacturing techniques and select materials for key components. As a result, the company has constructed a pilot production line to produce fuel cartridges for commercial applications "under military specification environmental conditions," the company said.

Over the past few months, Millennium Cell shipped components for 25 fuel cartridges to Jadoo Power System to support its contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense. Next month, the company plans to ship additional units to the NextEnergy Center for independent testing as the final stage of manufacturing process validation.

In 2006, Millennium Cell announced it had agreed to supply up to 250 Hydrogen on Demand fuel cartridges for delivery in mid-2007 to South Carolina as part of the Greater Columbia Fuel Cell Challenge. The cartridges will provide the hydrogen fuel for Jadoo's XRT Extended Runtime Accessories targeted for use with emergency responders, Homeland Security and other "off-grid" power support applications in Columbia, South Carolina.

Millennium Cell is collaborating with leading contractors to meet demand for its patented process in four areas: military, medical, industrial and consumer electronics.
