A green garbage truck - Oshkosh Truck introducing hybrid

November 15, 2006

Oshkosh Truck Corporation (NYSE: OSK) will present a garbage truck built around its proprietary ProPulse® hybrid drive technology at the 2006 Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF) at the 6th National HTUF meeting this month in San Diego, California.

“Our ProPulse hybrid drive system could significantly reduce fuel costs. During extensive customer field tests, it has shown improved fuel efficiency of 20 to 50 percent over typical refuse trucks,” said Don Verhoff, Oshkosh’s executive vice president of engineering technology.

The ProPulse hybrid electric drive technology was developed for garbage trucks as part of the Advanced Heavy Hybrid Propulsion System Project sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Key partners in the four-year development were Rockwell Automation, The Ohio State University and John Miller Enterprises.

In addition to the garbage truck, Oshkosh has developed an 8 x 8 heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT-A3) that uses the ProPulse hybrid electric drive's technology for military applications.
