Emcore said the $28 million worth of receivers would to be used in solar farms in South Korea.
Albuquerque, N.M.-based Emcore (Nasdaq: EMKR) announced today that it signed a definitive agreement to supply $28 million worth of solar cell receivers to ES System, based in Gwang-Ju, South Korea.
Emcore said the concentrating photovoltaic, or CPV, receivers would be used in solar farms in South Korea.
"We continue to see increased demand for this enabling product from customers around the world and this purchase order further diversifies our growing terrestrial component backlog, which now exceeds $110 million," said David Danzilio, VP and general manager of Emcore's photovoltaics division.
"Our second automated receiver assembly line has entered into volume production and we expect to commence shipments from the third receiver line in June."
"When combined with the recently completed CPV solar cell capacity expansion, this assembly capability positions Emcore as the only vertically integrated CPV receiver manufacturer to the global concentrating photovoltaics industry."
Emcore said the ES System order incorporates an advance deposit to ensure production priority. The receivers are expected to enable the installation of 70 megawatts of solar farms, according to Emcore.
The company said production for this order has already commenced and shipments are scheduled to occur over the next 24 months, with provisions for accelerated deliveries as well as future purchase options.
