"We're still just playing at the margins," said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom of most current initiatives in the cleantech sector.
Newsom's keynote address at the San Francisco Cleantech Forum characterized his own city's substantial recycling, renewable energy, green building and other initiatives as world-leading, but admittedly not very meaningful in terms of affecting global climate change.
He called for federal leaders, and private sector cleantech leaders in the audience, to bring a new level of scale to their efforts.
In this excerpt from his plenary, Newsom advises, among other things, never to trust politicians' numbers when it comes to climate change, especially those of his contemporaries in other cities.
