Biofuel retailer plans to launch new operations this year in Washington, Oregon and California.
Seattle-based biofuels retailer Propel Biofuels is planning a significant expansion this year, expecting to open more than 35 stand alone biodiesel filling stations.
The company said the new stations would go up in Washington, Oregon and California.
"Our mission is to provide drivers with the opportunity to make clean and renewable fuel a part of their daily lives," said Rob Elam, CEO and co-founder of Propel.
"Propel biodiesel is compatible with any diesel vehicle on the road today, so we can drive clean without modifying our vehicles."
Propel recently opened its third location in Washington, in Bellevue. Last year, the company put up stations in Ballard and Kenmore.
In December, Propel announced that it signed a lease to open a 9,000 square foot biofuel station in downtown Seattle. That flagship station is expected to open next month.
The company's Bellevue, Ballard and Kenmore stations are smaller, 200 square foot locations.
It's a departure from the company's original plan (see Keiretsu cleantech contenders), in which Propel planned to co-locate biodiesel pumps at conventional gas stations at no cost to station owners.
Propel said it's looking into more green construction options, including recycled steel, cold patch concretes, solar power and LEED certification of its station design.
The smaller stations sell B20 biodiesel, while the planned larger station is expected to add a second grade of biodiesel, B99.
Propel gets its biodiesel from Seattle's Imperium Renewables and Natural Selections Farms in Sunnyside, Wash.
