Corgi toys to use Horizon fuel cells

January 10, 2008

Hong Kong-based toymaker Corgi International (Nasdaq: CRGI) announced today that it signed a deal to use fuel cells from Singapore's Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies in a new line of environmentally-friendly toy cars.

Financial terms of the worldwide partnership agreement were not disclosed.

"This agreement represents a new chapter for Corgi International and is clear evidence that, as a company, we are at the forefront in bringing new and cutting-edge environmentally-friendly and green technologies to the international toy market," said Michael Cookson, CEO of Corgi.

This isn't the first toy deal for Horizon, which made a deal in July to scale up manufacturing of its existing line of toy products with Wah Shing Toys of Hong Kong (see Fuel cells coming to more toys).

"This partnership with Corgi International is a hugely exciting step for Horizon and provides a unique opportunity to take fuel cell technology out of the laboratory and into millions of homes around the world," said Taras Wankewycz, VP at Horizon.

Some of Corgi's high-profile toy licenses include Disney Classics, Harry Potter, James Bond, Star Trek,  and The Beatles.

Horizon started out in the toy business with the H-racer zero emission vehicle. The fuel cell combines hydrogen with oxygen from water to generate a direct current that powers the toy's electric motor.

The only byproducts of the fuel cell are electricity and water.
