Fat Spaniel adds off-grid and solar thermal services

December 4, 2007

San Jose, Calif.-based Fat Spaniel Technologies, which provides monitoring services for renewable energy systems, added services for keeping an eye on remote, off-grid systems, as well as for commercial-scale solar thermal installations.

Fat Spaniel said its monitoring service can now communicate directly with solar inverters and battery systems from OutBack Power Systems to deliver real-time and historical energy system data about charge status, output, faults and greenhouse gas avoidance.

The company said the integrated offering can help system installers and operators monitor and maintain remote solar installations as well as battery backup systems.

"Support for OutBack's energy systems expands Fat Spaniel's battery backup and off-grid services to ensure that our installers and end-customers worldwide are able to effectively monitor and maintain even the most remote solar energy systems," said Chris Beekhuis, president and CTO of Fat Spaniel.

Fat Spaniel's new solar thermal service incorporates flow metering and temperature sensor hardware from Sweden's Metrima.

"Strong environmental incentives and increasingly compelling economics are driving significant interest in and adoption of commercial solar hot water systems," said Beekhuis.

Both new offerings are integrated with Fat Spaniel's Insight Manager portal for multi-site management, giving owners and installers the ability to maximize performance, manage maintenance and receive revenue-grade reports for all their systems.
