Open Energy, PV Powered in supply deal

August 28, 2007

Solano Beach, Calif.-based Open Energy, maker of building-integrated photovoltaic roofing materials, said today it established an Original Equipment Manufacturer relationship with PV Powered.

Bend, Ore.'s PV Powered, which manufactures solar power inverters, will supply OEM versions of its residential, grid-tied inverters combined with Open Energy's SolarSave roofing tiles.

"This relationship enables Open Energy to offer its customers "end-to-end" integrated solar systems targeted specifically to the new residential construction market," said David Field, chief operations officer of Open Energy.

Founded in 2003, PV Powered also makes commercial inverters, announcing its first product last month designed for projects up to 150 kilowatts.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Open Energy said the products would be distributed primarily through its national distribution agreement with Eagle Roofing Products of Rialto, Calif., a roofing tile manufacturer.

"We chose to work with PV Powered because of their innovative products and service delivery platform, both of which are well positioned to support our channel partners in the building integrated PV marketplace," said David Trepeck, VP of Solar Solutions for Open Energy.

Open Energy said PV Powered inverters offer integrated, web-based performance monitoring, allowing building owners and system installers to monitor installation output.

In addition to solar products, five-year old Open Energy is developing a concentrating solar power system it calls SunCone. In February, the company said it completed the engineering design for its solar thermal system.
