Fuel Tech gets $3.7M in orders

August 3, 2007

Fuel Tech (Nasdaq: FTEK) said today that it received multiple air pollution control contracts totaling $3.7 million.

The Batavia, Ill.-based company said the most significant order was placed by City Utilities of Springfield, Mo., for the installation of two NOxOUT Ultra systems.

In March, the company announced $3.5 million in contracts in the U.S. and Italy (see Fuel Tech lands $3.5m in new orders).

The systems for today's contracts, designed to reduce nitrogen oxide, will be used at the Southwest Power Station Unit 1, a 195 megawatt coal-fired plant, and at the Southwest Power Station Unit 2, a 300 MW coal-fired unit currently under construction.

"With numerous SCR systems scheduled to be deployed in the United States during the next several years, we are working hard to attract other municipal and private utilities to Fuel Tech’s urea-to-ammonia conversion technology, and hope to report additional successes in the near future," said Fuel Tech president and CEO John Norris (see Driving profits by cleaning up coal).

Fuel Tech said delivery for the two systems is scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2008.

The company said the remaining contracts primarily represent mapping and modeling activities, including work for a Korean customer.

Fuel Tech said over 450 of its nitrogen control systems are installed worldwide where coal, municipal waste, biomass, and other fuels are utilized.

The company, with 104 employees, also makes Fuel Chem to reduce slag formation and corrosion in boilers and furnaces.
